The Second City
The Second City is an improvisational comedy enterprise, best known as the first ever on-going improvisational theater troupe in the United States. It is known also for the inclusion of live, improvised music during their performances. It began in 1950s, as small groups of undergraduates, including young actors such as Mike Nichols and Elaine May, who met at Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap, a bar on the University of Chicago campus, which later became the Compass Players, a 1950s cabaret revue show.
The Second City Theatre opened on December 16, 1959 and has since expanded its presence to several other cities, including Toronto and Los Angeles. The Second City has produced television programs in both the United States and Canada including SCTV, Second City Presents, and Next Comedy Legend. Since its debut, the Second City has consistently been a starting point for comedians, award winning actors, directors, and others in show business.
AMY THOMPSON is honored to perform with The Second City. She grew up in California and received degrees in English and Acting from Brandeis University before studying improvisation at The Second City, Annoyance, and iO Theaters. Amy performs each Friday at the Annoyance Theatre with her team Baby Wine. Thanks to family and friends for the encouragement to chase my dreams. You can follow Amy on Twitter at @thompthompthomp.
EMMA POPE is thrilled to be a part of The Second City Touring Company. She hails from Washington, DC, and is a graduate of the College of William & Mary. You can see her performing around Chicago at iO (Sears Tower, Tone) and CIC (JOAN, House Ensemble). She is represented by Paonessa Talent. Thank you to her unbeatable family and friends for their endless support, love and laughter.
KATIE KERSHAW is originally from the foothills of Appalachia in Eastern Kentucky and loves her hometown more than most people love their dogs. She is a graduate of The Second City Conservatory and the iO Training Center. Katie can be seen improvising around town with Perennials at iO, Tone at the Mission Theater, and Trigger Happy at Annoyance Theater.
