(Charleston, SC – 7.15.14) – The Charleston Music Hall is proud to present two nights of the Blue Dogs December 27th and 28th for their 2nd Annual Homecoming Show.  They sold out the Music Hall last December, and we are thrilled to bring them back for two nights with a whole new slew of friends and special guests (TBA in the months to come).  The Blue Dogs truly are one of the most iconic Charleston bands, and they will be celebrating their 26th year as a band this year.  Check out this great video highlighting last year’s performance: Click Here.  You can buy individual tickets to each night, or a two night bundle.

They can say it better than we can, so now a very special message from the Blue Dogs:

“Dearest Dog People,

First of all, THANK YOU for being one of the 1000 folks who joined us for our 25th Anniversary show last December 29. Without you, there is no show, no band, no Blue Dogs! And because of you, we literally had one of the greatest nights of our lives as musicians. It meant so much to us to have a full house, and then to have all these musicians and friends come out and spend the evening with us.  It was incredible.

Well, the good news is, that very night, we decided that we had found the ANNUAL EVENT we have been searching for our whole career. We have always wanted to host a musical happening in Charleston that would be an annual homecoming of sorts.  One that would allow us to hang out with other musicians and our families and friends and make some kind of special noise together. Last year, you helped make that come true.

And so we are going to turn a milestone into a new beginning…our annual HOMECOMING show…except that this year, we were encouraged by the Charleston Music Hall to turn our event into a TWO-NIGHT EVENT. So we will take over the CMH on December 27 & 28, 2014. We are working on plans for each night which we will share with you very soon but rest assured you’ll get plenty of Blue Dogs and as many special guests and special moments as we can bring onto the stage on those two evenings.

Last year some of our oldest musical friends, Doug Jones, Danielle Howle, Edwin McCain, Hootie and the Blowfish, special guest Radney Foster, and a host of other talented musicians from SC joined us on stage, so watch out for announcements about Special Guests that will join us for our second annual homecoming event.

We’ll do it all again this December times two. We look forward to sharing another special time with you and your friends and families!

Have a great rest of the summer, and we’ll see you soon.”

An Update on the Blue Dogs in 2014:

(Charleston SC, January 1, 2014): After 25 years of playing shows and releasing 9 CD’s and 2 DVD’s, South Carolina’s Blue Dogs celebrated in grand style with a sold-out two-set performance at the Charleston Music Hall on Sunday, December 29, 2013, joined by special guests and friends paying tribute to the band and, in some cases, singing the Blue Dogs’ songs back to the band. Darius Rucker sang “Isabelle” (along with his own “Wagon Wheel,” and his old bandmates from Hootie and the Blowfish joined him onstage for two Hootie hits, “Time” and “Hold My Hand”). Edwin McCain sang the Dogs’ “Rainbows Over My Blues” and part of “I’d Give Anything” (as well as his own “Gramercy Park Hotel”). Radney Foster performed with the band two songs that he co-wrote with Dogs lead singer Bobby Houck, “Half of My Mistakes” and “What’s Wrong with Love Songs.” There were also appearances by other South Carolina musicians including Cravin Melon’s Doug Jones, Dangermuffin’s Dan Lotti, Danielle Howle, Mac Leaphart and John Satterfield, and most of the former members of the Blue Dogs.

The band continues in 2014 to perform on pace to do more than 100 shows a year, from clubs, festivals, and colleges to corporate events, private parties, and fundraisers—primarily from New York to Florida but expanding wherever they are called. They continue to maintain a national (and international) fanbase, with all 9 recordings available through iTunes and other digital portals via their distributor, Redeye, and their CD’s, DVD’s and other merchandise offered exclusively at their website, 2013 marked 25 years since standup bassist Hank Futch joined forces with longtime friend, fellow cub scout, and acoustic guitarist/vocalist Bobby Houck under the band name “Blue Dogs.” And so the Charleston SC-based Blue Dogs quietly move into their 26th year as a band (est. 1987) playing and singing Americana/country-rock music.

The band has performed on the same stage with such well-known and diverse artists as Willie Nelson, Widespread Panic, Bruce Hornsby, and Hootie and the Blowfish and more. They have also received national exposure by singing the national anthem on NBC at the final Southern 500 NASCAR race in Darlington SC in 2004, and in 2007 by performing as the house band on a week’s worth of Wheel of Fortune shows.
