You Should Sell That!
Working from her studio in Charleston, SC, Camela Guevara explores the compulsion to share and consequently monetize creative expression. She uses consumerism as part of the creative process by sourcing materials from physical and online retail stores. She manipulates these readymade items with fabric and embroidery and places them in an art-commerce context.

Guevara humorously explores the cycle of leisure consumption that is so prevalent online and in the Charleston creative community. Her playful soft sculptures act as experimental counterpoints to the typical Instagram-friendly decor we see all the time. These works demonstrate Guevara’s ability to subvert the mundane while defying the expectations of capitalism. She invites the viewer to reconsider the objects we come into contact with on a daily basis.
