Bop ‘Til You Drop
Bop 'Till You Drop Bio
The Charleston Jazz Orchestra presents an evening of hard bop! This highly energetic and rhythmic style of jazz music emerged in the 1950s as an extension of bebop’s blazing speed and a reaction to the softer, more mellow tones of cool jazz. Its creators sought after down-home, soulful grit, and its bluesy licks and rhythms made it a notable facet of jazz history.
Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers were hard bop’s frontrunners. From that group, many stars shined bright and carried the music forward, such as pianist Horace Silver, trumpeter Lee Morgan, saxophonists Lou Donaldson and Johnny Griffin, and trombonist Curtis Fuller.
Don’t miss this musically and intellectually stimulating concert as the CJO brings the sounds of hard bop to the Charleston Music Hall!
