This Grammy Award winning, Charleston, SC-based quintet, performs timeless music born from the Gullah culture of the southeastern Sea Islands. Their debut album was featured on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross and the TODAY show. It also soared to the #1 position on the Billboard, Amazon, and iTunes Jazz Charts. Playful game songs, ecstatic shouts, and heartbreaking spirituals can all be found on their latest release Good Time, which also offers the groups first original songs inspired by Gullah tradition.

Demetrius Doctor Trio feat. The Wives

Fusing Jazz elements with the Gullah/Geechee influence of the Lowcountry, the Demetrius Doctor Trio looks to create a musical experience unlike any other. Consisting of Demetrius Doctor (piano), Lavonta Green (bass), and Calvin Baxter II (drums), the Charleston natives’ experiences as church musicians in the Holy City can be heard in every pounding rhythm and heartfelt melody. With a wide-ranging skill set, members of the trio have shared the stage with Gospel artists like Tye Tribbett and Travis Greene, Hip Hop artists like A$AP Rocky, as well as jazz legends like Fred Wesley and Freddie Cole. The trio is currently in the process of recording its first album and look to continue sharing the music of their home with the world.
